Collaborative Unit Planning

Collaborative Unit Planning  becomes an integral component within an educators journey as it allows for numerous academic benefits experienced from both academics and instructors when incorporated in a classroom. When instructors work in collaboration with one another to develop a unit, the big ideas, areas of inquiry and learning goals will coincide with one another. When teachers share similar ideas the likelihood of academic success greatly heightens as they are working together to produce a common goal. The sharing of different voices will heighten instructor and academic knowledge as they are gaining view points from various outlets. Additionally when a shared goal and/or message is being conveyed the level of consistency increases allowing for greater knowledge and understanding on a particular topic. Throughout my practicum experience I had the opportunity to observe and participate in academic discussions aimed at building and implementing a unit plan. Together with my associate teacher, as well the neighbouring instructor, we worked in unison to create particular learning goals and activities in order to produce a similar consistent final product. The sharing of ideas and viewpoints significantly heighten personal knowledge in regards to various areas of studying allowing me to be a more effective instructor. Finally when collaborating with fellow colleagues we were able to provide effective criticism and recognize areas of potential issues which made for a better learning environment. Collaborative unit planning is an instructional practise which educators should partake in on a regular basis in order to better self knowledge. Collaborating amongst fellow colleagues is an essential skill which the contemporary education must practise as it will allow for a multitude of academic benefits for both self and student.

The twenty-first century has evolved into an era dependent on technology due to the continued development of numerous outlets. The inclusion of technology during group work assists in the development and sharing of gathered information allowing for more effective communication. Additionally, technology makes it easier to divide work roles and responsibilities which is integral to ensure success. Google Docs is an easily accessible outlet which academics can use and share with fellow peers to prepare a document. This digital resource includes numerous helpful components that allow academics to work simultaneously on a shared document. This acts as a fantastic resource for the busy student as they do not need to alter their hectic schedule to sent up face to face interactions. Instead the work can be completed from any digital tablet where ever and whenever is best. Throughout the duration of our social studies course my colleagues and I worked towards establishing a unit plan focusing on financial literacy. We have meet in person as well discussed ideas and established activities through the different outlets made available.

The figured presented demonstrates the curation of ideas from multiple peer perspectives which has significantly enhanced our overall understanding and development of our unit. As a future educator I recognize the importance of working together with those around me as it allows for an influx of ideas to be demonstrated.
