Final Reflection

The participation within this course has significantly increased my knowledge and desire on how to successfully educate academics on the social studies curriculum. Throughout the duration of the weeks our class had the opportunity to examine and deconstruct numerous instructional strategies and techniques which focus on enhancing student appreciation and adoration towards social studies. Additionally, the course provided the opportunity to become aware of the various strands studied demonstrating numerous activities which can be included to gage student interest. During my educational journey I do not remember educators providing effective, lessons and activities for while studying social studies. In fact, I have very minimal memory of learning about the curriculum which was always quite upsetting. As a contemporary educator, I recognize the importance on feeding individuals knowledge on their history, roles and responsibilities as a twenty-first century citizen.

The progression of a society relies heavily on individuals willingness to educate themselves on their past.  As an educator we are the ones that become responsible for igniting student interest in studying social studies, we therefore must inspire to better and expand our practises in order to better satisfy the needs of all individuals.

The encapsulation of student interest relies heavily on educators desire to inspire others. When we enrich our minds and expand our perspectives we offer a more prosperous, nurturing learning environment for academics. As a contemporary educator I recognize it becomes my responsibility to deconstruct the negative association other attributed with the social studies curriculum.  When educators aim to improve their own level of knowledge and ways to teach they are not only bettering themselves but those in their classrooms. As an educator we must ignite academics passion to learn, and change their perspectives in order to develop a more stable, prosperous society.  As a twenty-first century educator I will continue to expand my own knowledge in order to provide a better future for academics.
